Asthma is one of the most common respiratory disorders affecting nearly 300 million people world wide.
The precise cause of Asthma is not currently known, however research indicates that a combination of genetic and environmental factors play a role in the development of the disorder.
Risk factors include family history, exposure to allergens such as urban air pollution and cigarette smoke, respiratory viral infection, or other respiratory disease.
Asthma is characterized as a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways brought about by inappropriate inflammatory response in the airways, leading to bronchial constriction, spasm and obstruction by overproduction of mucus.
The problem is compounded by a chronic scarring of the airway which further thickens the wall increasing susceptibility and adverse reaction to allergen stimuli.
